For over 40 years, KVIE Channel 6 has been broadcasting public television from Sacramento both to residents of the state capital and to communities throughout California's Central Valley. The station spans 28 counties, reaching a potential audience of 1.2 million households. In fact, some two million viewers watch at least one KVIE program every month.
KVIE's mission is to educate, enrich and enlighten viewers with a wide-ranging 24/7 on-air schedule. One of the country's top five producers of public television programs, the station's original shows include: New Valley, a series on the challenges the Central Valley faces today; Central Valley Chronicles, a look at the region from the perspectives of its diverse communities; and California Heartland, a program that zeroes in on the farmers and ranchers who make the region the U.S. leader in agriculture.
With the support of Merrill Lynch, KVIE has produced Kids, Cash & Common Sense, a multimedia educational program designed to equip parents and children ages 6-10 with the common sense they need to deal with dollars and sense.
This latest KVIE production, hosted by actor and comedian Jack Gallagher and featuring the debut of alien boy Noogo, leads kids on a fun adventure where kids learn basic money concepts such as:
- The value of money
- Earning
- Saving & spending
- Sharing
Merrill Lynch supports the production of Kids, Cash & Common Sense, which has been nominated for four regional Emmy Awards. The program, which is being aired by PBS, is reaching thousands of youngsters nationwide.
