Kids learn how to start and run their own business-and have fun doing it! Created for students in grades 3-8, the inventive BizWorld program gives kids the chance to set up companies that make and sell friendship bracelets.
Since 1997, over 30,000 students across the U.S. have taken part in BizWorld. The four-day curriculum is offered in classrooms, after-school programs and community organizations. BizWorld teaches students how to design and manufacture friendship bracelets, how to raise money, and how to market and sell to their customers. Students even learn how to prepare an income statement and balance sheet-all the skills needed to succeed in the future job market.
With the support of Merrill Lynch, BizWorld has reached 848 classrooms in Northern and Southern California since 2001, and through the involvement of employees, Merrill Lynch teaches BizWorld modules in local schools, contributes to program development, and helps to spread awareness of the organization's mission and programs.
BizWiz, a new money management module funded by Merrill Lynch, offers students the opportunity to learn about good management and investment options. Through hands-on activities and real world simulation that is both fun and educational, BizWiz introduces students to seven types of investments-bank savings, collectibles, bonds, private investment, real estate, stock, and insurance-and the risk and reward of each.
Merrill Lynch funding supports BizWiz, a money management module that will become an integral part of the BizWorld curriculum.
